Be Here Now: It’s “Winter” @ Proctors

Look, there’s the Scotia Police Department.
Isn’t that Mike’s First Prize?
Hey, that’s the grand staircase at Schenectady City Hall, isn’t it?

Nippertown locals may not be fooled into thinking all of these local landmarks are actually located in Madison, Wisconsin, but that’s what the filmmakers of “Winter of Frozen Dreams” are hoping.

Starring Thora Birch and Keith Carradine, the movie was filmed around town during the winter of 2007, and lots of Nippertown residents signed on as extras for the shooting. The film was directed by Eric Mandelbaum.

Based on the true story of University of Wisconsin college student-turned-prostitute Barbara Hoffman, who has remained in jail for nearly 30 years now, the film tells a sordid tale of murder, blackmail and lust.

Now “Winter of Frozen Dreams” is coming home to Schenectady with a one-day-only stand at Proctors on Thursday, May 14. Showtimes are 2:30, 4:45 and 7:15pm.
