Danger Mouse’s Latest Release: a Blank CD

You can’t buy the CD “Dark Night of the Soul,” the new Danger Mouse collaboration with Sparklehorse‘s Mark Linkous.

Originally planned to be packaged with a book of photographs by David Lynch that were inspired by the music, it now looks like the music will never be officially released, due to a contractual dispute with EMI.

Instead, you can order the book of photographs (or optionally, a less-expensive poster) that will come with a blank, recordable CD-R inscribed with this label: ‘For legal reasons, the enclosed CD-R contains no music. Use it as you will.'” Fans will have to find, download and burn the album for themselves, which is already fairly easy to find online.

In addition to Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse, other artists making an appearance on the album include The Flaming Lips, Iggy Pop, Frank Black and Suzanne Vega, among others.
