Real Good for Free: Lake George
Lake George – America’s Vacationland!
Sure, Gaslight Village is nothing but a vague, distant memory at this point, but there are still some fun things to do in Lake George.
Especially during the summertime.
Fun? You want fun? Well, I give you Brave Combo, one of the funnest bands on the planet. Or least the best Grammy-winning contemporary polka/Tex-Mex/roadhouse rock band to ever come out of Denton, Texas. And in celebration of their 30th anniversary, the band is bouncing onto the Shepard Park bandstand in Lake George at 7:30pm Wednesday, August 12 for what I’m predicting will be one of the best concerts of the summer.
Go see this band. You will not be disappointed. In fact, Nippertown is offering a one-time-only money back guarantee for this show – and truly, we would indeed be offering that same really big deal even if it wasn’t already a free show.
So a big thank you goes out to John Strong and all the rest of the fine folks at the Lake George Arts Project for bringing us Brave Combo, as well as a whole summer’s worth of free weekly shows in spite of this seriously down-turned economy that we all find ourselves wallowing in.
Here’s the complete line-up of shows – all at 7:30pm Wednesdays and free – in Shepard Park this summer:
July 1: Captain Squeeze and the Zydeco Moshers
July 8: Yarn
July 15: The Alan Payette Band
July 22: Eilen Jewel
July 29: The Jason Spooner Trio
August 5: Sue Foley
August 12: Brave Combo
August 19: Hair of the Dog
August 26: Paul Cebar
And don’t forget the always wonderful (and equally free) Lake George Jazz Weekend on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 19-20 with an all-star line-up that includes Giacomo Gates, the Christian Scott Quintet, Steve Turre and much more.
