Be Here Now: The B3nson Family Band, 7/10
“The more, the merrier” seems to be the battlecry of the new B3nson Family Band, a mix ‘n’ match assortment of members of the many various bands/projects/collaborations that record for Albany’s collective B3nson Recording Company. The ensemble will be making its public debut at Valentine’s in Albany on Friday, July 10.
Here’s what the fine B3nson folks had to say about it in a recent press release:
“The B3nson Family Band is true to its name. Musicians from nearly every active B3nson band have been getting together and working hard to create new arrangements of some of the best known hits from the B3nson catalog. In some instances, it is a new creative release for B3nsonites to rework their songs, as a horn driven version of ‘Baker Street’ by Scientific Maps will prove. And in other ways, it is an homage to some of the best songwriters in the area, as Matt Ferguson of BEWARE! the Other Head of Science sings lead on We are Jeneric’s now classic Capitol based song, ‘After the Great Flood of Troy'”.
There are a whole big bunch of bands working under the B3nson umbrella, including Sgt. Dunbar & the Hobo Banned (one of the big buzz bands of this year’s SXSW fest), Littlefoot, Black Licorice Ghosts, Desperately Obvious and Barons in the Attic, to mention just a few.
On Friday night, BFB will be joined by Philadelphia’s Hop Along, a like-minded combo who have recorded with members of Sgt. Dunbar & the Hobo Banned, as well as Swampbaby’s Nick Matulis.
