Be Here Now: A Truth Story

I really love Douglass Truth‘s paintings.

But I have absolutely no idea what to expect from his performance of “A Pittsfield Story” at the Ferrin Gallery in Pittsfield, Mass. at 9pm Thursday, July 16. In fact, I don’t even know whether it’s actually his performance at all.

“A Pittsfield Story” is, in fact, credited to Dorothy Truth, Douglass’ twin sister, with whom the painter has readily acknowledged an “on-and-off friendship.”

Here’s how Douglass describes the performance:

“A tale of two twins (I guess that’s redundant) growing up in Pittsfield in the 1950s…

One, an accomplished artist, a favorite son of both his family and his hometown.

The other, an outcast, a black sheep, a troublemaker.
She works in a cafeteria and wears a hairnet.

She’s not happy about it.”

And, yes, by now I am thoroughly intrigued…
