LIVE: Jeanne O’Connor & the New Standard @ Caffe Lena, 7/31/09

Jeanne O’Connor is a jazz vocalist with a sublime style, a flexible alto voice and a mighty impressive resume that includes stints in many of New York City’s most prestigious jazz clubs from the Blue Note to the Rainbow Room.

When she re-located to Saratoga Springs a couple of years ago, it didn’t take her long to surround herself with some of the Spa City’s finest musicians.

On Friday, July 31, O’Connor and her newly minted band the New Standard commanded the stage at Caffe Lena for an evening of jazz-flecked music primarily drawn from the pop hit parade of ’60s and ’70s.

While the focus was clearly on O’Connor, she was confident enough to spread the spotlight around to her musicians, including Bob Warren (vocals, guitar), Peg Delaney (keyboards), Tony Markellis (bass), Mallory O’Donnell (vocals) and Sam Zucchini (percussion).

You can catch O’Connor in duo format with Peg Delaney at the Stockade Inn in Schenectady on Thursday, August 27.
