Fall events @ ACCR in Troy

The Arts Center of Capital Region has announced its fall season of concerts, performances and other events.

Here’s how it shapes up:

Wednesday, September 16, 7pm
“Beloved on the Earth: 150 Poems of Grief + Gratitude”
Area writers included in this best-selling poetry anthology will read from the collection and related work on the subject of death, mourning and gratitude for lost loved ones.

Friday, September 18, 8pm
The Shakin’ Bakers
Formed from the ashes of Rocky Velvet, the Rockin’ Bonnevilles and other area roots-rock staples, this jump blues supergroup features guitar hero Graham Tichy, blues harpiest Ted Hennessey, bassist John Ellis and drummer Pete Tumbaco. This show marks their very first public appearance! Free swing dance lesson at 7pm with instructor Jason Fenton.
$12; members $10

Sunday, September 20, 2pm
Capital Region Improv Jam
It’s an afternoon of improv comedy where the audience is invited to play along. Actors, students, experienced improv-ers and novices are all welcome during this special afternoon of improv mayhem. Join us for a free workshop at 12:30pm, followed by an interactive “Jam” performance hosted by the Mop & Bucket Company.

Sunday, September 27, 2pm
“Henry Hudson and His River”
In a live performance by eba Dance Theatre, you can explore the adventures of Henry Hudson as told in theatre and dance. Bring the family! Become ocean waves and an audience chorus. Get your very own Henry Hudson Funbook.

An Evening with the Mop + Bucket Company
The Capital Region’s premiere improvisational theater company presents a sparkling evening of short-form stories, songs and games, using audience input and involvement.
$12; members $10

Monday, October 5, 7pm
“Travel: A BookMarks Reading”
A program of the Memoir Project, “Travel” is an evening of getting away and getting inside the trips that really matter. Travel isn’t all about destinations, because getting there may truly be at least half the fun. Curated by Donna Miller and Julie Gutmann.

Friday, October 9, 8pm
SSH! Dance Party (Salsa + Swing + Hustle + !)
It’s the Capital Region’s newest dance party! The monthly Salsa, Swing + Hustle nights at ACCR feature a variety of musical styles to keep you dancing all night. The evening begins with a FREE Intro to Swing lesson, folowed by a night of social dancing from 8:30pm ’til 12midnight.

Tuesday, October 13, 8pm
“Communal Drone Night”
Whether you’re an experienced sound artist, open-minded newbie or just an interested observer, you can grab the noisemaker of your choice and join in with a community of like-minded folks who make hypnotic and meditative art from sound. Co-sponsored by the Albany Sonic Arts Collective.

Fear of Flying
This energetic and richly layered progressive rock band is renowned for its unique blend of memorable songs and profound musicianship.

Mondays, November 9 & 16, 7pm
“Family: A BookMarks Reading”
A good writer knows that there’s plenty of good material to be found at home. A program of the Arts Center’s Memoir Project, these two nights celebrate that notion with readings about family. A discussion of the craft of writing with Marion Roach-Smith follows.
