Real Good for Free: Quintessence
You know, we’re not sure if we ever really fully understood that phrase “everything old is new again,” until now. Quintessence in Albany – one of our fave, funky, old-school-diner converted into a delicious neo-retro dining ‘n’ drinking spot – is back again.
Back in the ’80s when it was one of the most happening Nippertown-at-night spot, Quintessence brought plenty of great music to the house, including blues veteran Charlie Smith and Woodstock veteran Bert Sommer.
And the good news is that now live music is coming back to Quintessence again, too, and that’s a sweet, sweet thing.
On Saturday, October 10, you can drink ‘n’ dine to the sounds of the classic rock duo Double Take. And on Sunday, October 11, the mood gets a little jazzier with the Nat Phipps/Pete Toigo Duo.
And that seems to be the pattern: pop and rock on Saturdays (beginning at 10:45pm), and jazz on Sundays (staring earlier at 8pm).
Here’s how Quintessence’s music calendar is filling out so far:
Saturday, October 10: Double Take (classic rock acoustic duo)
Sunday, October 11: The Nat Phipps/Pete Toigo Duo (jazz piano/bass)
Saturday, October 17: Bicycle Mary (indie alt-rock)
Sunday, October 18: The Keith Pray Trio (jazz saxman)
Saturday, October 24: The Heaters (classic rock)
Sunday, October 25: The Mike Lamkin Trio (jazz organ)
Saturday, October 31: Yellow Dog (acoustic rock duo)
Sunday, November 1: The George Muscatello Trio (jazz guitar)
