Odds & Ends @ the End of the Week
By now, we’re assuming that everyone in the world has seen the Playing for Change video for “Stand By Me.” If you haven’t, please go here right now.
But you may not have seen Playing for Change’s video for “Better Man” featuring Keb’ Mo’, so here it is:
So could it possibly be a mere coincidence that the Playing for Change Band is in concert at The Egg in Albany on Saturday (October 24) and Keb’ Mo’ is scheduled to step into The Egg spotlight the very next night, Sunday (October 25)? Hmmm…
There’s still time to get tickets to the WEXT benefit concert tonight at the Exit Dome (aka, the WMHT-TV studios in North Greenbush). It all gets started at 7:30pm with Railbird Jr., Eric Margan & the Red Lions, Sean Rowe and Super 400.
The evening’s festivities are being filmed for a possible upcoming television special. And if you can’t make it to the concert in person tonight, you can listen at home beginning at 7pm. The concert will be broadcast live with Nippertown.com’s own Greg Haymes and Ramblin Jug Stompers’ Mister Eck hosting the between-performance band interviews.
One of our fave websites is Jason Crane‘s online jazz interview show “The Jazz Session,” based right here in Albany. He’s got a hundred (well, OK, we exaggerated…when we looked yesterday he only had 99) podcasts on the site, all available for free download.
Jason has recently posted several new interviews that should be of interest to Nippertown jazz fans, including jazz/hip-hop pianist Robert Glasper (who was Maxwell’s keyboardist at the Palace Theatre this summer), the Industrial Jazz Group (who played at the Berkshire Museum last week and will play at Time & Space Limited in Hudson tonight) and guitarist Julian Lage (who plays at the Van Dyck in Schenectady tonight). Check it out.
