10/29: Today’s Tips: Thursday

MUSIC: Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe @ Revolution Hall, Troy: Led by super saxman Denson, Tiny Universe often gets tagged as a jam band, and full-force funk remains the band’s primary focus, but they also embrace elements of jazz, gospel and reggae on their new album, “Brother’s Keeper.” 9pm. $22.

THEATER: “A Legend of Sleepy Hollow” @ New York State Theatre Institute, Troy: Inspired by Washington Irving’s writings, Mary Jane Hansen’s play – which wraps up its run on Friday (October 30) – is the perfect Halloween outing – a few tricks and lots of treats. 8pm. $20; seniors/students $16; children $10.

MUSIC: Lunic, the Blisterz, Travis Gray & the Frontiers @ Jillian’s, Albany: No question about it, Loudonville singer-songwriter-violinist Kaitee Page and her band are ready for the big time with their smashing new CD, “Lovethief.” 8pm. Free.

MUSIC: The Bad Plus @ the Iron Horse Music Hall, Northampton, Mass.: In support of their latest album, “For All I Care” (read our review here), pianist Ethan Iverson leads his rock-minded jazz trio the Bad Plus into the Iron Horse. 7pm. $23.

FILM: “I Knew It Was You: Remembering John Cazale” @ Images Cinema, Williamstown, Mass.: Kicking off the second week of the Williamstown Film Festival, this new documentary explores the work and all-too-short life of under-appreciated actor John Cazale. 8pm. $13; students $7.
