Real Good for Free: “Wild Combination: A Portrait of Arthur Russell” @ iEAR at RPI, 11/11/09

The year-old EMPAC seems to have stolen the spotlight from the equally adventurous iEAR folks over at RPI in Troy, but iEAR is still offering some pretty cool stuff, like the film “Wild Combination,” which will be screened at RPI’s West Hall Auditorium in Troy at 8pm on Wednesday (November 11). Admission is free.

Directed by Matt Wolf, “Wild Combination: A Portrait of Arthur Russell” is an absorbing documentary film about the seminal avant-garde composer, singer-songwriter, cellist and disco producer Arthur Russell. Before his untimely death from AIDS in 1992, Arthur created music that spanned both dance-floor pop and the transcendent possibilities of contemporary classical music.

Wolf incorporates rare archival footage and commentary from Arthur’s family, friends, and closest collaborators—including Philip Glass and Allen Ginsberg—to tell this poignant and important story.

Wolf will be on hand for a discussion and Q&A session following the screening of the film.
