Be Here Now: Beth Jochum @ the Center for Natural Wellness, 11/14/09

BethJochumOne of the founding members of the fabulous womens blues group Begonia and later a guitarist with the venerable Ernie Williams, Beth Jochum hasn’t spent much time in the spotlight lately, even after releasing a new solo album, “1311,” two years ago.

So an opportunity to see her back on stage is a genuine treat. Jochum will perform a concert at the Center for Natural Wellness/School for Massage Therapy off Wolf Road in Colonie at 7pm Saturday (November 14). She will be accompanied by bassist Michael McAllister, hand drummer Holly Huzar, vocalist-guitarist Mary Crinnin and percussionist-ukulele player Betsy Soares. Opening the evening’s performance will be Native American flute player Chris Melco.

Unfortunately, the reason for Jochum’s return isn’t so pretty. The show is a benefit for Jeanne Kitt, an uninsured, self-employed massage therapist who recently lost her thumb in an accident.

Suggested donation at the door is $20 – more if you can, less if you can’t.
