Real Good for Free: Beatlemore/Skidmania, Skidmore College, 11/22/09
“And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make…”
– from the Beatles’ “The End”
The ninth annual “Beatlemore/Skidmania” musical extravaganza takes place at 3pm on Sunday (November 22) at Skidmore College’s Filene Recital Hall in Saratoga Springs, and the featured album will be the Fab Four’s classic 1969 album, “Abbey Road.” The event is free and open to the public.
Performers at this year’s Beatlemore concert include the co-ed a cappella groups Drastic Measures and Dynamics, as well as the all-male Bandersnatchers and the all-female Accents.
In addittion, bands such as the Deal, Gung Ho and Carl Sagan’s Apple Pie will dip into the Beatles’ vast song catalog. And in what has become something of a tradition, the Rust Brothers—a band featuring a number of Skidmore faculty and friends—will help to close the show with their interpretation of “Golden Slumbers,” “You’ve Got to Carry that Weight,” and “The End.”
The Rust Brothers feature bassist John Anzalone, guitarists Joel Brown and Dave Maswick, drummer Gordon Thompson, keyboardists Patte Hadfield and Sam Brouse, trumpeters Dan Papson and Nate Blanks, saxophonist Johnny Newell and the string section of Peri Strongwater (viola), Katherine Bohn (violin) and James Merrick (cello). Vocal group the Accents will also join in.
There is no admission charge for the concert, but a collection will be taken to help support student scholarships.
