12/2/09: Today’s Tips: Wednesday

MUSIC: Danger Field with Rick Whispers, Neon Black @ Savannah’s, Albany: Local rockers Danger Field are heading up a special benefit bash for the Food Pantries of the Capital District. Admission is free, but if you bring along a non-perishable food item or two, you’ll recieve a free copy of Danger Field’s CD “Songs in the Key of Danger.” All Danger Field merch sales will also be donated. 8pm. Free.

TALK: Frieder Weiss‘ “From Technological Research to Sensual Engineering” @ Studio 2, EMPAC at RPI, Troy: Weiss describes himself as “an engineer in the arts.” He’s also an expert in realtime computing and the use of interactive computer systems in performance art. He created the interactive media environment that’s used in Chunky Move’s “Glow,” which is being performed at EMPAC on Thursday and Friday. 7pm. Free.

MUSIC: Guitar Wars @ the Bayou Cafe, Albany: It’s the third and final head-to-head competition in the preliminary round. The top guitarslingers of tonight’s contest will battle the other finalists at Revolution Hall in Troy next week in the grand finale. 9pm. Free.

MUSIC: Underoath with August Burns Red, Emery @ Northern Lights, Clifton Park: Dynamic Christian metalcore band outta Tampa, Florida, Underoath cranks it up and gets down in support of their latest album, “Lost in the Sound of Separation.” 8pm. $22.
