ARTIST TALK: Thomas Lail @ Hudson Valley Community College’s Bulmer Telecommunications Center, Troy: In conjunction with the Fine Arts Faculty Exhibition on view at the campus’ Teaching Gallery through Saturday, December 12, collagist/installation artist Lail will give a talk about his work. 12noon. Free.

MUSIC: The West Point Band’s Jazz Knights @ The Linda, Albany: An evening of big band favorites, popular music and original compositions for jazz ensemble. 7pm. Free.

FUNDRAISER: Do your holiday shopping and support Berkshire Creative at the SPARKLE! fundraiser in Lenox with music, food and auctions of unique Berkshire items and services. Here’s a sneak peek at some of the items. 6:30-8:30pm; Tickets are $25 ($15 for Friends of Berkshire Creative).

DANCE: Chunky Move‘s “Glow” @ EMPAC at RPI, Troy: A “biotech fiction” by Australian choreographer Gideon Obarzanek and interactive software creator Frieder Weiss, “Glow” is a performance piece for solo dancer and 21st century technology. 7 & 9pm. $15; seniors and students $10. (Also on Friday night)

READING: Seth Rogovoy @ Water Street Books, Williamstown, Mass.: The Berkshires’ numero uno cultural reporter reads from his brand new book, “Bob Dylan: Prophet, Mystic, Poet,” at the first stop of his regional book tour. 6pm. Free.

HOLIDAY WALK: Victorian Streetwalk @ Saratoga Springs: It’s the first city-wide holiday walk of the 2009 season. Carolers, musicians, magicians, singers and entertainers of all types can be found at more than 50 locations throughout the city. 6-10pm. Free.

ART OPENING RECEPTION: Dina Bursztyn‘s “Wanderlust” @ Columbia Greene Community College’s Kaaterskill Gallery, Hudson: From visionary artist Bursztyn of Catskill’s Open Studio come these playful, colorful paintings and drawings on paper of seemingly miniature worlds, inner maps, paths, glimpses of actual places, a mesh of reality and dreams. Exhibit runs through Friday, January 29. 7-9pm. Free.

MUSIC: “Melodies of Christmas” @ Proctors, Schenectady: The annual Christmas concert featuring the Empire State Orchestra & Youth Choral with special guests the McKrells with Sara Milonovich, Stefon Harris and Blackout, Randy Crafton and Amy Platt and the Orlando School of Dance. Proceeds benefit the Child Cancer Center at Albany Medical Center. 7pm. $25. (Also Friday-Saturday and 3pm Sunday)
