LECTURE: Bob Mankoff @ Guilderland Public Library, Guilderland: The cartoon editor of The New Yorker and cartoonist in his own right, Mankoff discusses the fine of cartooning. 7:30pm. Free. (A pre-talk reception will take place at 6:45pm. $25.)

FILM: “Pygmalion” @ UAlbany’s Page Hall, Albany: It’s the final event of the New York State Writers Institute’s 2009 season. Starring and co-directed by Leslie Howard, this 1938 British film was adapted from George Bernard Shaw‘s classic play. Why not catch the film tonight, and then head over to Capital Repertory Company to see the musical version – “My Fair Lady” – later this weekend? 7:30pm. Free.

MUSIC: The Danny Kalb Trio @ Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs: Guitar great Kalb was a founding member of the pioneering ’60s electric blues bands the Blues Project, as well as key member of the late Dave Van Ronk’s classic Ragtime Jug Stompers. He lands at the legendary Spa City coffeehouse tonight in support of his latest album, “I’m Gonna Live the Life I Sing About.” His brother Jonathan Kalb opens the show. 8pm. $20.

DANCE: Chunky Move‘s “Glow” @ EMPAC at RPI, Troy: A “biotech fiction” by Australian choreographer Gideon Obarzanek and interactive software creator Frieder Weiss, “Glow” is a performance piece for solo dancer and 21st century technology. 7 & 9pm. $15; seniors and students $10.

READING: Seth Rogovoy @ The Bookloft, Great Barrington, Mass.: The Berkshires’ numero uno cultural reporter reads from his brand new book, “Bob Dylan: Prophet, Mystic, Poet,” as part of his regional book tour. 7pm. Free.

MUSIC: “Melodies of Christmas” @ Proctors, Schenectady: The annual Christmas concert featuring the Empire State Orchestra & Youth Choral with special guests the McKrells with Sara Milonovich, newly Grammy nominated jazz vibraphonist Stefon Harris and Blackout, Randy Crafton and Amy Platt and the Orlando School of Dance. Proceeds benefit the Child Cancer Center at Albany Medical Center. 7pm. $25. (Also 7pm Saturday and 3pm Sunday)
