12/18: Today’s Tips: Friday

MUSIC: Ramblin Jug Stompers @ Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs. Nippertown’s finest jug band – featuring Cousin Clyde, Bowtie, Mister Eck and Wild Bill – does their funky acoustic thing at the legendary Spa City coffeehouse. And in the spipit of the season, they’ll debut a song of two from the classic Jim Henson TV holiday TV special, “Emmet Otter’s Jug Band Band Christmas.” 8pm. $17.

FILM: “It’s a Wonderful Life” @ the Palace Theatre, Albany. Yes, a bonafide classic holiday movie. No, let’s make that THE classic Christmas movie. The American Film Institute ranked Frank Capra’s film No. 11 on its list of the 100 greatest movies of all-time. On the BIG screen. 7pm. $5; children $3.

ART EVENT: Art Night Schenectady @ various downtown locations, Schenectady. Plenty of art exhibitions all around town, and music as well, including experimental banjo player Holland Hopson – who opened for Faust back in September – at Signatures Wine Bar in Proctors. 5-9pm. Free.

MUSIC: “Winter Solstice Concert” @ Bearsville Theater, Woodstock. Led by singer-songwriter-Woodstock icon Happy Traum, the annual holiday concert features music by John Sebastian, Amy Helm, Larry Campbell, Teresa Williams, Pat Alger, Roly Salley and other guests. 8pm. $35, $50.

MUSIC: The McKrells @ the Parting Glass, Saratoga Springs. It’s Night Two of the McKrells’ Christmas program at the Spa City’s premiere Irish pub. Don’t miss their version of “‘Twas the Night Before Chritmas.” 8pm. $10.
