Third Friday, Schenectady is a monthly one-night-only showcase of the arts that takes place in downtown Schenctady. They’re looking for art, music and/or any other type of creative expression; contact them for info to showcase your art, or find a venue to perform. They are especially interested in the following for upcoming shows:
Feb – looking for female artists for “The Ladies Show”

March – open to all
Hudson’s Limner Gallery has announced three upcoming exhibits/competitions:
Direct Art Magazine 2010: Competition for $26,000 in publication awards, including front and back covers, feature articles and display pages in the Fall 2010 edition of Direct Art Magazine, distributed to Barnes and Noble, Borders and specialty book stores. (Deadline March 31)
The Human Landscape, a thematic exhibition for those artists working with the human form. $2400 in publication awards. (Deadline March 1)
Digital Art Extravaganza, a thematic exhibition specifically for those working in digital computer media $2400 in publication awards. (Deadline: January 30)
100 Artists/ 100 Dreams @ La Leona Arts explores the concept of artists as visionaries and keepers of the creative fires. The project consists of a film, an exhibit, and an art installation. Visual artists, performers and musicians discuss one of three dream types: recurring dreams, prophetic dreams or dreams that have impacted them creatively.
100 Artists/ 100 Dreams – The Film is a collaborative effort between filmmaker Robert G. Christman and La Leona Arts. Featuring visuals, audio and text by 100 contemporary artists, it will debut during Ione’s 15th Annual Dream Festival in Kingston in October 2010.

Knickerbocker Film Festival has announced their First Annual Uptown Film Festival a week-long event at the Madison Theater in Albany starting on Friday, February 26 through Thursday, March 4, 2010. Want to submit your film? Here’s the submission form.
Festival selection criteria is that films can be up to 20 minutes in length and produced between 2007 and 2009. There will be six award categories, reviewed by the committee of jurors, for Best Drama, Best Comedy, Best Actor, Best Actress, People’s Choice (voted upon by festival attendees), and Web Choice. (Deadline: Feb. 1)
Aesthetic Magazine Short Film Competition
Prizes include £500 first prize, public screenings & DVD publishing. Accepting films in all genres: drama, documentary, music video, annimation, satire, comedy, artists’ film etc. (Deadline: April 30)
Aesthetic Magazine Creative Works Competition
Prizes include £500 first prize and publication in the Aesthetica Creative Works Annual. Art, poetry, photography and short fiction submissions accepted. (Deadline: August 31)
