Beauty and Sadness in Haiti

Nick Whalen: scene outside National Cathedral during the funeral of Haiti Archibishop Joseph Serge Moit and Vicar General Charles Benoit, Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Saturday, January 23, 2010.

Via Berkshire Living, Berkshire photojournalist Nick Whalen has spent most of the past year in Port-au-Price, Haiti documenting the UN’s efforts to restore order after the ousting of former president Jean Bertrand Aristide. After the recent earthquake, he returned to document the rescue efforts. His photographs are beautiful and utterly heart-wrenching.

Here’s his photoblog of recent events in Haiti, and here’s his portfolio with photographs from the past year.
