Boy, are our faces red…
It has come to our attention that we were wrong. Yes, wrong, wrong, wrong.
Last week, we asked the Flashback/Pop Quiz question:
What was the first rock concert at the Knickerbocker Arena (now known as the Times Union Center)?
Quite a few readers correctly named Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers as the headliners of that concert on February 3, 1990, but only Michael Hochanadel named Chris Whitley as the opening act. And so we named him the winner.
But astute Nippertown reader John Naioti called us on the carpet:
“You might want to check your facts. Kathy Conway was correct, and I have the ticket stub to prove it. Lenny Kravitz was the opening act on the tour supporting the “Full Moon Fever” album on 2/3/90. Chris Whitley was the opening act on the tour supporting the “Into The Great Wide Open” album on 9/21/91.”
So, yes, Kathy Conway was the only reader to name Kravitz as the opening act, so she is actually the grand prize winner of our Flashback Pop Quiz. We will root around in our Pop Quiz Prize Box and find an appropriate prize for Kathy. And a little something for John, too.
Rest assured that we here at Nippertown.com deeply regret the error. The director of the Nippertown Research Department Deep Storage Facility has been properly reprimanded – no late-night dog cookies for a week, Cale! – and a variety of safeguards have been instituted to prevent a similar error from occurring again.
