Red Lions in the Orchestra

If you’re a Nippertown music fan, then you’re probably well aware of the oh-so-talented and lovely Madalyn and Cicely Parnas, whose lush and passionate playing is an integral part of the glorious chamber-pop sound of Eric Margan & the Red Lions.

This weekend, however, the two sisters will be playing with a very different band – the Albany Symphony Orchestra. Duo Parnas – featuring violinist Madalyn and cellist Cicely – will be featured with the orchestra under the direction of David Alan Miller as they perform two concerti: Saint-Saëns’ rarely heard treasure “La Muse et le Poète” and the beloved “Double Concerto for Violin and Cello in Bb Major” by Vivaldi. Additional selections on the program include Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 8” and Schoenberg’s romantic “Verklärte Nacht.”

Performances will take place at the Canfield Casino in Saratoga Springs at 7:30pm on Thursday; at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall in Troy at 8pm on Friday; and at Barrington Stage Company in Pittsfield, Mass. at 3pm on Saturday.
