Bobblehead: Steve Barnes? Bob Wolf? Liz Bishop?
The fine folks in the Tri-City Valleycats marketing department have come up with a fun way for their baseball team to borrow a page from basketball’s March Madness.
The tournament bracket!
Or to be more precise, the Media Bobblehead Bracket Buster Tournament.
Each year, the Valleycats sponsor bobblehead giveaway nights, and one of the bobbling heads is a local media personality. (See last year’s Valleycat bobbleheads here.) To determine just who will be immortalized this summer, the Valleycats’ PR folks have developed a bracket system, and the general public can vote their favorites through to the finals by voting online or by telephone (629.2287).
The 18 candidates are local Nippertown media personalities from television (Liz Bishop, Rodger Wyland, John Gray…), radio (Bob Wolf, Randy McCarten, Brian Sinkoff…) and print (Steve Barnes, Kristi Gustafson, Mark McGuire…). Each of them are competing for a designated charity.
The winner will be announced on Monday, April 12, and the winner’s chosen charity will receive $600 from the Valleycats.
On Sunday, August 22, 1,200 bobblehead likenesses of the winner will be distributed with paid admission to the Valleycats game. And you’ll want to get to the ballpark early to watch the pre-game Media Home Run Derby, featuring all 18 bracket participants. (My money’s on McGuire.)
Each round of bobblehead voting lasts one week – only one vote per round, please – and the first round of voting ends on Sunday, so weigh in now.
What??!! No Greg Haymes of Nippertown??!! Pshaw. *That* home run derby would be a dilly.
