New adds on the Northern Lights calendar up in Clifton Park include the one and only Snoop Dogg on Thursday, April 22 (on sale at 10am tomorrow (Thursday) – $30 in advance; $35 at the door), as well as Sevendust on Friday, May 7 with Saving Abel and Day of Fire (on sale at 10 am Friday – $22 in advance; $25 at the door) and TV reality show fodder Bret Michaels on Friday, May 21 (on sale 10am Saturday – $32.50 in advance; $35 at the door). However, we here at are also heartbroken to announce that Flogging Molly – who were scheduled for Northern Lights on Sunday, April 18 – have cancelled due to illness. Please re-schedule soon…

Legendary blues piano pounder Pinetop Perkins leads an all-star blues band – featuring guitar hero Hubert Sumlin and drummer-harmonicat Willie “Big Eyes” Smith – in concert at Columbia Greene Community College’s Arts Center Theater in Hudson at 7pm on Saturday, May 1. Pura Fe opens the show. General admission tix are $22.

Girl Talk (aka, Greg Gillis) brings his head-spinning history of rock mix ‘n’ mash-ups to RPI’s East Campus Athletic Village in Troy at 9:30pm on Friday, April 30. Tix are just $10, but ya gotta have a college ID (any college) to get ’em. Facebook page here.

Jillian’s in Albany has added several noteworthy shows to its calendar, including the New Riders of the Purple Sage on Friday, April 9 and Tantric on Sunday, April 25.

In support of his new album, “Gentlemen I Neglected to Inform You You Will Not Be Getting Paid,” seven-string guitarist Charlie Hunter blows into Putnam Den in Saratoga Springs on Saturday, April 17.

In case you missed our announcement last week, Arlo Guthrie with Robin & Linda Williams and Their Fine Group will perform at Skidmore College’s Zankel Music Center for Caffe Lena’s 50th anniversary concert on Saturday, May 22.

In addition to the big bash at Skidmore, Caffe Lena will be hosting a batch of great shows during May, including Freedy Johnston (Saturday, May 1), the Austin Lounge Lizards (Friday, May 7), Uccello with Matt Haimovitz (2pm Sunday, May 9), the CD release party for Matthew Carefully’s “Community Balloon” (7pm Sunday, May 9), the Fred Eaglesmith Band (Friday, May 14), the 2000s Decade Concert with the Jeremy Wallace Trio and Ramblin Jug Stompers (Saturday, May 14) and Anais Mitchell (Sunday, May 16).

If you can’t make it to the Van Dyck in Schenectady on Thursday, April 8 to catch singer-songwriter-mandolinist Carrie Rodriguez showcase her stellar new album, “Love and Circumstance,” now you’ve got another opportunity. She’ll continue her tour with a stop at the Bearsville Theater in Woodstock on Sunday, April 11.

New concerts on tap at The Linda in Albany include singer-songwriter Mark Erelli on Friday, May 14 ($15) and the annual Phil Ochs Song Night on Saturday, May 22, featuring performances by Kim & Reggie Harris, John Flynn, Magpie, David Roth, Greg Greenway and Pat Wictor ($18).

Mix maestro Kid Koala returns to Revolution Hall in Troy on Saturday, April 10. White Lotus and Back From Japan kick off the festivities. Tix are $16 in advance; $18 at the door.

The Mississippi-based award-winning gospel group the Canton Spirituals land at the Washington Avenue Armory in Albany at 7pm on Saturday, April 17. Tix are $25.

The show by blues-rock singer Dana Fuchs that was scheduled for the Van Dyck on Friday, April 16 – after she postponed her original February 5 performance – has been cancelled.

And because this is Festival Fever week here at, we’ve also announced the line-ups for the Freihofer’s Jazz Festival at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, the Clearwater Great Hudson River Revival at Croton Point Park, the Lake George Jazz Weekend at Shepard Park and the Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival at the Walsh Farm.     Looking forward to Grey Fox! Please also mention the Catskills Irish Arts Week (CIAW), July 11-17. It’s in East Durham — 8 minutes from the new Grey Fox site, so if you time it right you can take in some bluegrass and some Irish trad music all in the same trip. During the week, CIAW features week-long instrument classes daily, and sessions at night; then on Saturday there’s a day-long concert.
