Festival Fever: Truck America Festival, 4/30-5/2/10

Robin and Joe Bennett (of the band Goldrush) have made quite a name for themselves as entrepreneurs by organizing the British indie-music Truck Festival, as well as several spin-offs – the Wood Festival and the OX4 Festival.

Now for the first time they’re bringing their unique brand of festival fever stateside with the inaugural Truck America Festival, slated to take place at the Full Moon Resort in Big Indian in the Catskills from Friday-Sunday, April 30-May 2.

We don’t have a schedule of performances yet, but the line-up of bands for the three-day bash certainly looks mighty tasty.

Mercury Rev – accompanied by a chamber orchestra – has landed the headlining slot. Also onboard are Brooklyn’s White Rabbits, Hopewell, psych-popsters Here We Go Magic, Blake Schwarzenbach’s punksters the Forgetters, the Jayhawks’ leader Gary Louris, Americana fave Tim Easton, Canada’s roots-rockers the Sadies, homegrown folksters Mike & Ruthy, Willy Mason and the sublime Ida, Nova Scotia power rockers Wintersleep, London trio the Joy Formidable, Agitpop frontman John deVries, Sam Isaac and Neil Halstead (of Slowdive/Mojave 3).

Among the many other performers will be Grand Mal, Nature Boy, the Roadside Graves, Dusty & the Dreaming Spires, Oxygen Ponies, Nina Violet and Two Dark Birds.

And if you’re looking for familiar faces, you’ll some of those at the Truck America Fest, too. Nippertown’s own music scene will be well represented by Sgt. Dunbar & the Hobo Banned, We Are Jeneric and Tern Rounders.

Weekend passes for the Truck America Festival are on sale for $120, which includes all of the music, workshops and other activities, as well as parking and camping. Daily tickets are also available: Friday is $37 in advance and $40 at the gate, while Saturday and Sunday tickets are $46 in advance and $50 at the gate.
