ArtBeat: Polaroids @ Carrie Haddad Photographs, Hudson
In the age of digital, Polaroid photography is deliciously old school yet surprisingly modern: it’s faster than digital photography, with virtually instantaneous prints; it has distinctive tonal qualities; but perhaps most strikingly, there’s that Polaroid photographic emulsion that allows a unique interaction that no other photographic process has.
This looks to be a stellar show based around the Polaroid camera, from William Wegman’s portraits of his Weimaraners to the painterly transfer techniques of Mark Beard and Tanya Marcuse to the emulsion manipulations of Jeri Eisenberg. Melinda McDaniel’s rich abstracts and and John Dugdale’s haunting large format works round out the show.

Opens Thursday, April 22. Opening Reception: Saturday April 24, 6-8pm.
