frieze Writer's Price 2010Everyone’s a critic: frieze, a British magazine of contemporary art and culture, is inviting entries for the Frieze Writer’s Prize 2010, which aims to promote and encourage new arts writers from around the world. Writers are invited to submit an unpublished 700-word review of a recent contemporary art exhibition. The winner receives an award of £2000 and a commission to write a review for the October issue. (Deadline: June 25)

The Hudson Valley Film Commission is holding a second round of auditions for Francine, a feature-length film, this weekend, May 8-9 in Kingston, and they’re considering both professional actors and people with no prior acting experience.

The onedotzero_adventures_in_motion Festival that recently touched down at EMPAC is seeking entries for next year’s event, new work that demonstrates innovative creative expression and visionary moving image ideas in the categories of animation + short form, feature films, live audio-visual performances and installations. (Deadline: June 30)

CCCA is seeking entries for Face to Face, an exhibit that examines how to portray a face in a personally expressive way that is slated to run from June 12-July 30. All media. (Deadline: Monday, May 10)

Limner Gallery is accepting entries for Strange Figurations, a thematic group exhibition to be held in September, 2010. All media. $2200 in publication awards. (Deadline June 30)

Saratoga Arts is accepting entries for Saratoga: Inside-Out, an exhibition that encourages artists to turn their views of Saratoga County “inside-out” by reinterpreting, subverting or envisioning anew the icons, ideas, events of landscapes. The show will run from August 7 through September 25. Drop off work (actual works, not slides or files) on Monday, July 25, 9am-5pm.

Saratoga Arts is accepting applications for a space at the annual Art in Park event in Congress Park, Saratoga> on July 10 and August 24.

Greene County Council on the Arts’ Catskill Gallery is seeking entries for Define The Decade, 2000-2010: Provocative works that present controversial issues, frame recent history and use traditional and new media to convey the sense and texture of the decade. All media, including spoken word and performances pieces. Membership is required to submit work. (Deadline extended to May 15)

Berkshire Made is still accepting entries for Handmade in the Park, a crafts fair of locally made, hand-crafted items that will take place on Saturday, June 26 and Saturday, August 7 at the First Congregational Church Park in Lee. (Application deadline: May 15).

NPR is seeking Muybridge-inspired videos (stop-motion animation, sequence of stills or anything else you can come up with) to feature on their Picture Show blog and the Corcoran website. (Deadline: May 15)

The Cooperstown Art Association is seeking entries for its 75th National Juried Exhibit to take place July 16-August 20. Jurors: Carrie Haddad & Melissa Stafford. All media. Possible $3500 in prizes. Prospectus available here. (Application deadline: May 15).

River Street Festival is accepting vendor applications for their annual event to be held Saturday, June 19 on River Street in Troy. (Deadline: May 21)

SOS (Strategic Opportunity Stipends) is designed to help individual artists of all disciplines take advantage of specific unique opportunities that will significantly benefit their work or career development. Grants between $100 and $600 will be awarded. Open to residents of New York State only. (Deadline May 25)

Upstate Artists Gallery is accepting submissions for People’s Choice: artworks in conjunction with Art on Lark, including Kid’s People’s Choice and High School People’s Choice. (Submissions due May 30).

The Garrison Art Center is seeking entries for “PHOTOcentric 2010” a juried exhibition open to photographers 18 years of age and over. Jurors: Harvey Stein and Stephen Shore. Solo Show for Best in Show/ virtual gallery exhibit for others. Download prospectus here. (Deadline June 1).

Pittsfield artists are invited to submit work for consideration for the Pittsfield Contemporary Exhibition 2010 to be held at the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts from July 23 – August 28. ALL ages. Oncology on Canvas is seeking entires for Expression of a Cancer Journey, a bienniel competition and travelling exhibition developed by Lilly (the pharmaceutical giant) as a way to honor those who are impacted by cancer as a patient, caregiver, friend or family member. (Deadline: June 10)

The 11th Annual Woodstock Film Festival is now accepting entries for its 2010 season, taking place September 29 – October 3, 2010. Here’s the entry form. (Deadlines: (early) May 21 and (final) June 21.)

Proctors Theatre is seeking entries for the Northeast Fine Craft Festival to be held October 23-24, 2010. Last year’s festival brought an attendance of more than 1,000 participants — with 40 artisan booths featured throughout the facility. Craftspeople and artisans who create original work from their own designs in metal, fiber, clay, glass, paper, wood, and leather are invited to apply online or send an email request to [email protected]. (Application deadline: June 30, 2010)

Hudson’s Limner Gallery is seeking entries for “Strange Figurations,” a thematic exhibition open to all media and figurative styles from the realist to the surreal and visionary. 72″ maximum dimension. The exhibition will be held at the Limner Gallery, September 1 – 25, 2010. $2200 in national magazine publication awards. On-line entry form. (Deadline June 30)

Hot street art action: Papergirl-New York State is seeking artists to participate in this year’s PaperGirl, an art event that will combine the forces of New York City and Albany. Works will be shown from August 23-27 @ the Dumbo Art Center, Brooklyn, from August 28-29 @ the Armory in Manhattan and from September 3-6 @ the Marketplace Gallery in Albany. After the gallery exhibitions, the art will be distributed to strangers on the street in a style that imitates paperboys. (Submission deadline: July 20)

UAlbany’s University Art Museum is seeking works in all media by alumni of all graduate and undergraduate programs for an exhibition this fall. (Deadline: October 1).

  • Wish You Were Here: A juried landscape exhibition based on experiences in the Catskill Park. Exhibit dates: October 16-Nov. 13, 2010. (Application deadline: September 1)
  • Salon 2010: The Push Pin Show. The GCCA’s annual unjuried holiday exhibition and sale, open to all members. Exhibit dates: November 20, 2010-January 15, 2011. (Application deadline: November 1, 2010)
