6/7/10: Today’s Tips: Monday
MUSIC: Jim Gaudet & the Railroad Boys @ North Albany Rehearsal Studios, Albany. Tonight would have marked the third anniversary of the Railroad Boys’ monthly residency at Tess’ Lark Tavern, and a grand celebration was in the making. After last month’s fire destroyed Tess’, Gaudet and his band decided to continue on with our first Monday of the month concerts in honor of Tess Collins and all the staff from the Lark Tavern. “After deciding to redirect our disappointment, we feel we have both an opportunity and an obligation to give back to the place that did so much for us,” Gaudet explains. So the band is carrying on their Monday night tradition at the North Albany Rehearsal Studios, which are co-owned by Railroad Boys’ mandolinist Sten Isachsen. It’s a “Bring Your Own” concert – that goes for food, drink and lawn chairs. There will be no cover charge, but all donations will be accepted and forwarded to the “Rebuild the Lark” fund. 7:30pm. Free.
MUSIC/THEATER: Musty Chiffon @ Capital Repertory Theatre, Albany. Kicking off Capital Pride week, Hudson’s delightfully devilish diva brings her flashback cabaret act, “Paisley For Brains: A Musical Trip Through the Psychedelic ’60s and Beyond” to Capital Rep as a benefit for Capital Pride. Chiffon will be accompanied by pianist/musical director Michael Holland. Read more here. 7:30pm. $20.
