Festival Fever: Pearl-Palooza @ Pearl St., 7/3
A new outdoor downtown street festival has popped up on the concert calendar. They’re calling it Pearl-Palooza, and it’s slated to take over North Pearl Street in downtown Albany from 12noon-6pm on Saturday, July 3. The main stage is slated to be located at the corner of North Pearl and Pine streets. Admission is free.
In addition to the numerous Pearl Street drinking establishments, the fest is also being sponsored by WEQX-FM. The radio station also sponsored the Saturday main stage music at last month’s Tulip Festival, although they are no longer involved with such other big outdoor bashes as Troy’s River Street Festival and Albany’s LarkFest, as they have been in the past.
The line-up of performers for Pearl-Palooza include:
12noon: Locksley
1:15pm: Civil Twilight
2:45pm: We Are Scientists
4:15pm: Rusted Root
In addition, a number of local bands – Black Mountain Symphony, Timbre Coupe, Rudeke, the Ameros, Dirty Paris and others – will be performing throughout the day at the various indoor venues that dot the Pearl St. landscape.

Whoever came up with the uncreative term “Pearl-Palooza” needs to go a few rounds with Joe Palooka. It’s almost as bad as that “new” ‘Albany Song’.
