A Musical Memorial to Sam Farkas
Jazz guitarist Sam Farkas was scheduled to lead his band, the Jazz Machine, in a free performance at 12noon on Thursday as part of the summer’s ongoing Jazz on Jay concert series.
Sadly, Farkas passed away suddenly on Saturday, June 12.
So Thursday’s Jazz on Jay concert will instead be a tribute to Sam Farkas and his musical legacy. Performing Farkas’ music in his honor on Thursday will be guitarist Joe Finn, drummer Cliff Brucker, organist Michael Lamkin and saxophonist Eric Walentowicz.
The free performance will take place at 12noon on Thursday on Jay Street in Schenectady. In case of bad weather, the concert will be moved indoors to Robb Alley at Proctors.

I played with Sam and Linda Brown on April 14th at Albany Medical Center. It was a performance to help promote Jazz Appreciation Month. When I found out, I was shocked and saddened.
Sam was a great musician and a teriffic individual.
