7/14/10: Today’s Tips: Wednesday

MUSIC: Joan Armatrading @ The Egg, Albany. The last time through town she was serving up the blues. This time around she’s rockin’ harder in support of her new “This Charming Life” CD. DANCE: New York City Ballet @ the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, Saratoga Springs. It’s American Girl Night, so bring the whole family (and their dolls) for a pair of George Balanchine classics – “The Steadfast Tin Soldier” and “Walpugisnacht Ballet” – as well as a new work by choreographer Alexei Ratmansky. 8pm. $18-$72.50.

MUSIC: Crooked Still @ Shepard Park, Lake George. The bluegrass and progressive-acoustic music ensemble lands in Lake George in support of their excellent new album, “Some Strange Country.” (Read our review here.) 7:30pm. Free.

READING: Russell Banks and Chase Twichell @ Davis Auditorium in Palamountain Hall, Skidmore College, North Broadway, Saratoga Springs. As part of the New York State Summer Writers Institute, it’s a fiction and poetry reading by Banks (“The Darling”) and Twichell (“Dog Language”). 8pm. Free.

MUSIC/RADIO: “Dancing On the Radio” @ The Linda, Albany. Jay Ungar and Molly Mason host their monthly live radio show with the Dancing On the Air Orchestra. This month’s guests are Mikhail Horowitz and Gilles Malkine. 8pm. $10.
