More moe.: Yes, moe. will be returning to the Washington Avenue Armory in Albany for their annual Halloween show. The always outrageous performance is slated for 8pm on Saturday, October 30. All tix are general admission and are priced at $27.
Bullet for My Valentine will be speeding into the Washington Avenue Armory, too. The concert slated for 7pm on Saturday, October 2, will feature support bands Escape the Fate, Black Tide and Drive A. Doors for the all-ages show open at 6pm. Priced at $25, tix go on sale to the general public at 10am on Friday.
Oh, and one more note on the welcomed revival of the Washington Avenue Armory as a concert venue – look for Pretty Lights there on Saturday, November 6.
In conjunction with the Word X Word Festival, the Colonial Theatre in Pittsfield is hosting a pair of concerts that mix music and poetry this month. Stephen Kellogg & the Sixers headline at 7pm on Sunday, August 22, with poet Derrick Brown and folk duo Mike & Ruthy opening the show. Then at 8pm on Saturday, August 28, Langhorne Slim headlines with poet Rives and singer-songwriter John Colvert also sharing the stage. Ticket prices for both shows are $25 and $35.
Northern Lights in Clifton Park just keeps on piling on the shows. New additions to the concert calendar this week included Mushroomhead with Final Trigger, Stygian and Koheleth at 7:30pm on Saturday, September 25 ($12 in advance; on sale 10am Saturday); Bad Religion with Bouncing Souls and Off With Their Heads at 8pm Saturday, October 16 ($22.50 in advance; on sale 10am on Saturday, August 7); Wiz Khalifa with Big K.R.I.T. at 8pm on Sunday, November 14 ($15 in advance; on sale 10am on Friday); Badfish with Scotty Don’t at 7:30pm on Wednesday, December 29 ($15 in advance; on sale now).
And for those of you who just can’t seem to get enough of the multitude of Beatles tribute bands, BritishMania will be rolling into The Egg in Albany at 8pm on Saturday, September 18. Tix are priced at $25, $32 and $38.
One of the classic one-hit wonders of the ’00s, rapper Afroman rolls into Jillian’s in Albany on Friday, August 27, and you can bet that his spliff-induced “Because I Got High” will be the centerpiece of his performance. Also new on Jillian’s calendar is the Ryan Montbleau Band, who grabs the spotlight on Friday, September 24.
Loose ‘n’ funky New Orleans Dixieland jazz and old-timey blues band Tuba Skinny returns to the Bearsville Theater in Woodstock at 9pm on Saturday, August 7. Tix are $10. Also new on the calendar at Bearsville is the husband and wife team of Sarah Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion, who will be sidling into the spotlight at 8pm on Thursday, October 14. Tix are $10 in advance; $12 at the door for this one.
The Clark Art Institute in Williamstown will be hosting bluegrass band the Doerfels at 4pm on Sunday, September 19. Tix are $10; students $8. Also, on the Clark’s upcoming calendar is the Dave Bennett Septet’s “A Benny Goodman Holiday Concert,” which will take place at 8pm on Friday, December 3. Tix are $30.
POSTPONED: Justin Townes Earle’s concert that was originally slated for the Iron Horse Music Hall in Northampton on Friday has been postponed due to an injury to his hand that required 19 stitches. The show is expected to be re-scheduled for late August. Stay tuned. (In the meantime, his dad – Steve Earle – is headed into The Egg in Albany on Friday, as scheduled.)
OPENERS: Having recovered from heart surgery at Albany Med back in early June, Simone Felice (of the Duke & the King and formerly of the Felice Brothers) will open for Yim Yames, Ben Sollee and David Daniel Moore tomorrow (Thursday) at Bearsville Theater…Happy Traum will be the special guest for Tracy Bonham’s concert at the Bearsville Theater on August 6…The Academy Is… has been tagged as the opening act for Kiss at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs on Tuesday, August 17.
