8/26/10: Today’s Tips: Thursday

ARTS WALK: Downstreet Art @ North Adams. It’s the last Thursday of the month, which means North Adams is gearing up for another citywide arts celebration. New exhibitions will open at NAACO Gallery, Local Color Gallery, Gallerie Haiti, Avalon Seafood Gallery, Be Your Own Placebo and Eagle St Installation space. Also on tap: music, video screenings and an art treasure hunt.

MUSIC: Blues Traveler @ Vapor, Saratoga Springs. Howlin’ harmonicat John Popper and his band have been rockin’ and jammin’ for two decades, and they’re still chugging. You’ll likely hear the hits – “Run-Around” and “Hook” – and lots more. But you’d better already have your ticket. 8pm. $30. SOLD OUT.

COMEDY: The Brew Ha-Ha Comedy Showcase @ the Dee Sarno Theater at the Arts Center, Saratoga Springs. Hosted by Greg Aidala, this week’s laugh-fest is headlined by Clayton Fletcher with up-and-coming Nippertown comics Adrianna Flax, Jaye McBride, Dan Rossi and Josh Sperber warming up the crowd. 8 & 10pm. $15.

FAIR: The New York State Fair @ the State Fairgrounds, Syracuse. Yes, the fried-dough season kicks into high gear today. This is is the bigtime so instead of the usual county fair country acts, you get, well, for instance today it’s Aerosmith at the grandstand at 7:30pm ($84, $94). ‘Nuff said. Tix for the grandstand shows include admission to the fair. Or fair admission is $10 (children 12 and under are free), and you’ll probably be able to hear Steven Tyler & the boys anyway. Gates open at 8am. The fair runs through Monday, September 6.

MUSIC: The Doornails @ the Valatie Community Theatre, Valatie. It’s an evening of acoustic roots music featuring Americana, blues and bluegrass. Whoa Nelly! opens the show. Proceeds to benefit the theater, a 1920s movie house that has been under renovation since the building was saved from the wrecking ball several years ago. 7:30pm. Suggested donation: $5.

MUSIC: CRUMBS Nite Out @ The Linda, Albany. After three years, the monthly free music session comes to a close. Alta Mira steps up onto the stage at The Linda to play some tunes and chat with host Howe Glassman. 7pm. FREE. (Related story: Farewell to CRUMBS Nite Out)
