9/9/10: Today’s Tips: Thursday

MUSIC: Alexander Turnquist @ Club Helsinki Hudson, Hudson. The hometown 12-string acoustic fingerstyle guitar hero takes Kottke/Fahey fretboard fireworks into the 21st century. And if that’s not enough, acclaimed Brooklyn-based instrumental rock combo Slow Six shares the stage. 8pm. $10.

MUSIC: Virgil Cain @ Gaffney’s, Saratoga Springs. The multi-talented singer-songwriter (keyboards, guitar, violin) drops by in support of his latest album, “Lights and Darks.” 8pm.

THEATER: “Making Macbeth Work” @ Time + Space Limited, Hudson. Director Linda Mussmann leads actresses Amanda Roberts and Nellie Rustick through a thoroughly unconventional examination and deconstruction of the Scottish Play. MUSIC: Keith Pray, Dave Gleason and Mike Lawrence Trio @ the Stockade Inn, Schenectady. Jazz up your Thursday with three of Nippertown’s finest. 7pm. FREE.

TALK: “Looking at Lunchtime” @ the Clark Art Institute, Williamstown. The lunchtime series continues as senior curator Richard Rand offers a half-hour talk that examines “Hanging Figure” by Juan Muñoz. 12:30pm.

MUSIC: Sonny & Perley @ the East Greenbush Community Library, East Greenbush. The husband-and-wife team of pianist Sonny Daye and vocalist Perley Rousseau offer their jazzy take of the Great American Songbook and more. Call 477-7476 for reservations. 7pm. FREE.

ART: Tara Fracalossi’s “A Space of Time So Small” @ the Pelavin Gallery, New York City. And if you happen to be in the Big Apple, swing by for the opening of Nippertown artist (and HVCC art instructor and gallery director) Fracalossi’s new exhibition. Through Saturday, October 23.
