Five Fall Faves: Pop/Rock Concerts

Today’s spotlight is on pop and rock concerts:

LarkFEST @ Lark Street, Albany. 10am-5:30pm Saturday, September 25. Nippertown’s biggest outdoor street fest welcomes headliners Eli “Paperboy” Reed and Backyard Tire Fire, as well as such fab homegrown talent as Charlie Watts Riots, Sirsy and Tom McWatters. FREE.

Alejandro Escovedo @ The Egg, Albany. 7:30pm Thursday, September 30. Simply one of the great singer-songwriters of our generation. And on this tour, he’s really rockin’. And Hamell On Trial opens the show. In the smaller Swyer Theatre. Wow! (Related story: Concert review) $28.

Janelle Monae @ Skidmore College’s Sports & Recreation Center, Saratoga Springs. 8pm Friday, October 1. Expect high-energy tales of aliens and robots in a Prince-meets-OutKast funk setting as the Queen of Sci-Fi Soul makes her Nippertown debut. Eli “Paperboy” Reed opens the show just a week after his LarkFEST performance. $20.

JP, Chrissie & the Fairground Boys @ the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, Troy. 8pm Wednesday, October 6. Yeah, “Chrissie” is Chrissie Hynde. Acoustic. What more do you need to know? $29, $35.

Experience Hendrix @ the Palace Theatre, Albany. 7pm Saturday, November 6. Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Susan Tedeschi, Robert Randolph, Jonny Lang, Steve Vai, David Hidalgo, Cesar Rosas, Eric Johnson, Ernie Isley, Living Colour, Chris Layton, the Slide Brothers… All on stage in the same night.
