Be Here Now: Sarah Lee Guthrie & Johnny Irion @ Bearsville Theater, 10/14/10

The husband and wife team of Sarah Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion are headed into the Bearsville Theater on Thursday, and they’ve got a few surprises up their sleeves.

The dynamic duo – she’s the granddaughter of Woody and daughter of Arlo; he’s a former member of Dillon Fence – will be showcasing selections from their upcoming album, “Bright Examples,” which is slated for release in February, 2011.

The follow-up to their 2005 debut studio album, “Exploration” (which was co-produced by the Jayhawks’ Gary Louris), “Bright Example” finds Guthrie and Irion exploring a new electric sound, in collaboration with San Francisco’s psychedelic folk band Vetiver.

Produced by Vetiver’s Andy Cabic and Thom Monahan and recorded at Dreamland Studios in Woodstock, the upcoming album features a dozen original songs, their signature vocal harmonies, sturdy roots-rock arrangements, guest musicians (including Vetiver drummer Otto Houser, the Jayhawks’ Mark Olson and singer-songwriter Neal Casal) and even – gasp! – drum machines.

The roots/alt-country duo of David Kraai and Amy Laber open the show at the Bearsville Theater at 8pm on Thursday. Tix are $10 in advance; $12 at the door.
