Concert Attendance Is Waaaaaaay Down
But you probably already knew that, if you’ve been attending club shows or concerts around Nippertown in recent months.
Edison Research interviewed more 15,000 young people (ages 12-24) nationwide in September. Sponsored by RadioInfo.com, the survey focused on radio listening habits, but there were also plenty eye-opening figures on various other topics as well:
CONCERT ATTENDANCE: In a similar survey taken in 2000, 24 percent of respondents said that they attended three or more concerts a year. In the new survey, that figure dropped to only 12 percent. In fact, 64 percent of those surveyed did not attend a single concert in the past year.
PHYSICAL & DIGITAL ALBUM SALES: The combined physical CD and digital download album purchases has dropped more than 50 percent since 2000 – from 785 million to 380 million in 2009.
NEWSPAPER READERSHIP: And here are the figures in response to the question, “How often do you read a printed newspaper?”:
Almost every day – 4 percent
Regularly, but not daily – 10 percent
Sometimes – 28 percent
Almost never – 58 percent
