On the Film Front…

Not that Hollywood’s prestige factor is in any danger of being usurped by the glitter ‘n’ glow of Nippertown, but there is a lot of great movie magic being made right around town here…

The Academy Award nominations won’t be announced until Tuesday, January 25, but a number of films with local ties are in the running.

And we ain’t talking about “Salt” or what was that other movie? Oh yeah, “The Other Guys”…

The Academy has narrowed down the Documentary Feature category from 101 qualified entries to 15 finalists – which include such Hudson Valley-connected docs as “Gasland,” “William Kunstler: Disturbing the Universe” and “Client 9: The Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer.”

The Academy has also announced the short list in the Animated Feature category, and the 15 finalists include “Idiots and Angels,” by the Woodstock area’s Bill Plympton. And by the way, Plympton’s dark comedy – about a loathsome man who wakes up one morning with a pair of wings that make him do good deeds – will be screened at Time + Space Limited in Hudson at 7:30pm Thursday-Saturday and at 4pm on Sunday. Tix are $7; students $5.
