MUSIC: “Rollin' On The River: A Tribute to Creedence Clearwater Revival” @ the Iron Horse Music Hall, Northampton. More than a dozen local bands pay tribute to John Fogerty and his bandmates by more than a dozen local bands, including the Lonesome Brothers, Rocky Roberts & Friends, Rusty Belle, Fancy Trash, Girls, Guns & Glory, National Carpet, the Grownup Noise, Salvation Alley String Band, Erik Alan (of Amity Front), School For The Dead, the Fawns, Goldwater, Philip Price (of Winterpills) with members of the Claudia Malibu and Treefort. All proceeds benefit the Pioneer Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross. 7pm. $13.
MUSIC: Renewal Chorus @ Time + Space Limited, Hudson. Performing traditional polyphonic choral music from around the world – including Bulgarian, Georgian, South African, Corsican and American shape note music – the Vermont ensemble celebrates the release of their new compilation CD, “Best of Renewal.” 6:30pm. $10.
THEATER: “Words, Words, Words (And Wit)” @ Schenectady Civic Players, Schenectady. A staged reading. 2:30pm. FREE.
MUSIC: Black Mountain Symphony @ Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs. A sonic fusion of everything from baroque to punk… $12.
MUSIC: The Elvis Birthday Bash @ the Ale House, Troy. It’s the annual launch of the rockin’ new year and a celebration of the music of the King of Rock & Roll. Featuring Mark Gamsjager & the Lustre Kings with Johnny Rabb. And probably some other special guests, too. 8pm.
THEATER ON FILM: “Hamlet” @ Spectrum 8 Theatres, Albany. The London National Theater presents the Shakespeare classic directed by Nicholas Hytner, featuring Rory Kinnear in the title role, David Calder as Polomus, Clare Higgins as Gertrude, Patrick Malahide as Claudius and Ruth Negga as Ophelia. 12noon. $15; 12 & under $12. OPERA ON FILM: “La Traviata” @ Proctors, Schenectady. Verdi’s classic, tragic love story starring Renee Fleming from the stage of London’s Royal Opera House. 4:15pm. $20.
FILM: “The Thomas Crown Affair” @ the Clark Art Institute, Williamstown. It’s the 1999 remake starring Pierce Brosnan as the art thief and Rene Russo as the insurance investigator who loves the thrill of the chase as much as he does. 2pm.
MUSIC: Nat Phipps Trio with Jeanne O’Connor @ Provence, Guilderland. The Swingtime Jazz Society presents the performance, which also features bassist Pete Toigo and drummer Pete Sweeney. 4pm; followed by jam sessions at 6pm. $15; students $5.
