MUSIC: The River Rats @ Putnam Den, Saratoga Springs. The punk foursome formerly known as SlackJaw celebrates the release of their debut album, “Rock City Falls,” with a serious party and performance. Doors open at 8pm.
FILM: “Phil Ochs: There But for Fortune” @ Time + Space Limited, Hudson. A documentary film by Kenneth Bowser is a timely tribute to a great American songwriter, whose career ended all too soon. 5:30pm. $7; students $5. (Through Sunday, January 23)
MUSIC: Antje Duvekot @ Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs. The German-born singer-songwriter has racked up a bunch of awards – including Kerrville New Folk Competition’s Best New Folk Award, Boston Music Award for Outstanding Folk Act and Grand Prize in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest. With opening act Kayla Ringelheim. 8pm. $15 in advance; $17 at the door.
MUSIC: Yarn @ the Van Dyck, Schenectady. Schenectady native Blake Christiana plays a homecoming show with his urban alt-country combo. 8pm. $12 in advance; $15 at the door.
MUSIC: The Elvis Birthday Bash @ the Skytop Steakhouse, Kingston. It’s the annual launch of the rockin’ new year and a celebration of the music of the King of Rock & Roll. Featuring Mark Gamsjager & the Lustre Kings with Johnny Rabb. 9pm.
