Rockabilly Rockers on the Fly

There’s been an unusually high number of pompadour sightings at the Albany International Airport this week.

Rockabilly kingpin Johnny Rabb is headed out to sunny California, where he and Eddie Angel and the rest of the masked caveman in the Neanderthals will be making their west coast debut this weekend with gigs in Rosemead on Friday and Long Beach on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Mark Gamsjager & the Lustre Kings are headed in the opposite direction – jumping on a trans-Atlantic flight and heading to Europe, where they’ll launch a whirlwind 12-show tour of Belgium and the Netherlands on Thursday.

The Lustre Kings won’t have any time to rest up after the tour, either. As soon as they land back in the States, they’re headed off for a handful of east coast shows backing up the original Queen of Rockabilly Wanda Jackson. And of course, these will be high-profile gigs considering that Jackson is currently reaping reams of rave reviews for her brand new album, “The Party Ain’t Over,” produced by Jack White.

There’s no local date for the Wanda Jackson and the Lustre Kings tour, but if you want to hit the road to catch them in action, here’s the itinerary:

Tuesday, February 22: World Cafe Live, Philadelphia
Wednesday, February 23: Royale Boston, Boston
Thursday, February 24: Bowery Ballroom, NYC
Friday, February 25: 9:30 Club, Washington, DC
