Guitar Godz of the ’70s
If there wasn’t already enough hot music action going on around Nippertown on the last weekend of June, things just heated up for metalheads and fans of classic guitar rock.
Yes, jazz fans have the Freihofer’s Jazz Festival at SPAC (June 25-26). Folk music devotees have the Old Songs Festival of Music & Dance at the Altamont Fairgrounds (June 24-26). Fans of eclectic music and indie rock are patiently waiting to find out who’s playing at Wilco’s Solid Sound Festival at MASS MoCA (June 24-26). And funk and soul fans are looking forward to Earth, Wind & Fire at Tanglewood (June 25).
But for those who still love the sizzling six-string, fret-melting sounds of days gone by, the place to be on Saturday, June 25 is the Harley Rendezvous Classic at the Indian Lookout Country Club in Mariaville. That’s where the Guitar Godz of the ’70s will be ripping it up.
Who? Well, would you believe Pat Travers, Derek St. Holmes, Ronnie Montrose and Mark Farner? All together? That’s right, they’ll each be playing individual sets of their own hits, and then they’ll all join forces at the end of the show, crank their amps up to 11 and rock out to a four-way guitar duel.
what about David St. Hubbins?
Chris: St. Hubbins was really a rhythm player. I would think Nigel Tufnel would be more in order for this festival, if only we can keep him away from the tiny bread.
Chris C stole my comment!
Andy is right, Nigel would be the correct choice. I just saw Derek St. Holmes above, and the name reminded me of the heaviest band ever to come out of England…
