Sean Rowe Makes “Magic”

Today marks the long-awaited re-release of soulful singer-songwriter Sean Rowe’s album, “Magic.” Yes, Rowe originally released the album on Collar City Records back in 2009, but late last year, he signed with Anti- Records, who are re-releasing the album worldwide.

And we do mean worldwide.

SEAN ROWE – “Magic” (ANTI): Dosering is alles. Als de diesel in je brandstoftank te stroperig wordt, kun je door de juiste dosering benzine bij te mengen weer op pad. Als de aardappels te flauw zijn, kun je door net genoeg zout toe te voegen, de maaltijd toch op smaak brengen. En als je liedjes goed zijn, maar net niet excellent, kunnen de juiste arrangementen je plaat naar een hoger niveau tellen. Mik er een precies afgepaste hoeveelheid studio trickery bij en dat album staat alweer twee treetjes hoger. Maar voor alles geldt: in de juiste dosering. Het moeten geen flauwe, al te doorzichtige trucs worden, want dan wordt het gegarandeerd een plaat die eventjes briljant lijkt, maar dan al gauw tegen gaat staan. En uiteraard: de basis moet in orde zijn: een mooie stem, goede muzikanten en de juiste hooks. Dat is op Sean Rowe ‘s Magic dan ook prima in orde. Zijn liedjes zijn niet die van een genie, maar alle extra ingrediënten, de hele santekraam die ik hier zojuist opsomde, voegt hij op werkelijk wonderbaarlijke wijze samen. Zijn donkerbruine stem, de slimme arrangementen en de mooie productie maken van Magic, Sean Rowe’s tweede plaat pas na het alweer zeven jaar geleden verschenen debuut 27, een meer dan sterk album. En nee, over een maand is de magie vast nog niet verdwenen.

His dark brown voice, clever arrangements and beautiful production of Magic, Sean Rowe’s second album after the debut seven years ago appeared in 1927, a more than solid album. And no, about one month, the magic has not gone down.
