Hump Day Unusual Moment: Todd & Taj Do Gilbert & Sullivan

From the October 29, 1989 episode of the best music television show ever, “Night Music.” A most delightful and thoroughly unusual rendition of “Never Mind the Why and Wherefore” from the Gilbert & Sullivan operetta, “H.M.S. Pinafore.” Yes, that’s Taj Mahal, Todd Rundgren and Michele Gray (now Mrs. Todd Rundgren).

And just to push things a little further into the Twilight Zone, the accompanying musicians include Pat Metheny (guitar), Philippe Saisse (keyboards), Christian Marclay (turntables) and host David Sanborn (saxophone).
