WGXC Hits the Airwaves

WGXC LogoTurn On. Tune In. Don’t drop out.

After four long years of hard work, the new community radio station WGXC begins broadcasting on 90.7 FM on Saturday. It all kicks off at 2pm with “Turn Your Radio On,” a free, family-friendly event at the Catskill Community Center in Catskill. The four-hour event will feature local musicians, speakers and radio program hosts all celebrating the official launch of WGXC on the airwaves.

Turn out in person or tune in on the airwaves to hear live performances from such musicians as Brian Dewan, Kyle Esposito, Deena Rae Turner, Pamela Pentony, Finley & Pagdon, the Olde Tyme Love Machine, Rob Hervey, C.B. Smith & the Lucky Devils and many others.

The event will also include:

A youth open-mike, showcasing the community’s young talents
An opportunity to meet the station’s programmers, volunteers and staff
Recording and interview booths (Hear yourself on the radio!)
A sound jungle and other kids’ activities
A potluck dinner (Bring a dish to share)
Live theater

In conjunction with the new radio station launch, Catskill’s Main Street is also hosting “Masters on Main Street” on Saturday. This unique project presents the exhibitions of ten contemporary artists in vacant storefront pop-up galleries located up and down the street. The exhibits will be on view from 5-7pm on Saturday. Admission is free. You can find a map of the pop-up gallery locations here.

And following “Masters On Main Street,” Catskill’s Brik Gallery will host a festive dance party from 7-9pm. Admission is free.
