Live Nation hasn’t officially announced it yet, but another golden oldies will be rolling into the Saratoga Performing Arts Center on Friday, September 2 – the triple-bill of Journey, Foreigner and Night Ranger. Yeah, that Def Leppard-Heart double-bill announced earlier this week is looking pretty good now, ain’t it?
And if that news isn’t exciting enough for ya, how about this one? The Marshall Tucker Band will be playing the Alive at Five free concert in Albany’s Riverfront Park on Thursday, June 9.
The Bearsville Theater in Woodstock will host the second annual Soundout for Scholarships benefit concert for the Woodstock Day School at 8pm on Saturday, April 30, featuring Laurie Anderson. Following Anderson’s performance, there will be an after-party at 10pm featuring Jerry Marotta, David Van Tiegham and friends. Tix are $35, $50, $100 and $150; after-party-only tix are $20.
Also at the Bearsville Theater, guitarist Jackie Greene brings his band to Woodstock in support of his latest album, “Till the Light Comes,” at 9pm on Friday, May 6. The Wiyos open the show. Tix are $20 in advance; $25 at the door.
Guitar phenom Tommy Emmanuel with Phil Emmanuel and the Australian All-Star Band take over the spotlight at the Palace Theatre in Albany at 7pm on Saturday, May 7. Tix are slated to go on sale to the general public on Friday, March 25 … Also at the Palace – comedian Kevin Hart at 7pm on Wednesday, April 20. Priced at $49.50, tix go on sale to the general public at 10am on Friday … And the Palace also welcomes the Sea Chanters – the official 20-voice chorus of the United States Navy – performing a concert of patriotic selections and Broadway show tunes at 3pm on Saturday, April 2. Alejandro alert! The Iron Horse Music Hall in Northampton has booked Alejandro Escovedo & the Sensitive Boys for a show at 7pm on Thursday, April 28. Jesse Malin opens the show. Tix are $25 in advance; $30 at the door.
Club Helsinki Hudson has booked a pair of intriguing jazz shows spotlighting the Tisziji Munoz Quartet on Sundays, May 15 and June 5. Self-taught guitar innovator (and former Schenctady resident) Munoz has played with everyone from Pharoah Sanders to Paul Shaffer, and his current band features bassist Don Pate, drummer Bob Ra-Kalam Moses and pianist John Medeski. Not too shabby, eh?
New shows added to the spring season of the Eighth Step at Proctors in Schenectady include the Mother Daughter String Band on Saturday, May 15, and John Brodeur’s CD release party for “Tiger Pop Ten” on Saturday, May 21.
The Wood Theater in Glens Falls has booked upcoming concerts by singer-songwriter Paula Cole on Wednesday, May 8 ($48); ’60s pop duo Chad and Jeremy on Sunday, October 9 ($34); and in case you missed him at The Egg last weekend, guitar pioneer Leo Kottke on Friday and Saturday, October 14-15 ($48).
Before he drags Poison into SPAC on Saturday, July 23, frontman Bret Michaels is headed out on a solo tour that will be making at stop at Northern Lights in Clifton Park at 8pm on Tuesday, April 19. Tix are $27.50 in advance; $30 at the door … The Harddrive Live Spring Fling Tour will also roar into Northern Lights on Thursday, April 28, with Saliva headlining the show. Rev Theory and Emphatic open the show. The first 103 tickets sold will be priced at $10.35. After that, advance tix are $13; at the door $15 … And Norma Jean headlines at 7pm on Tuesday, May 17, with After the Burial, Motionless in White, For the Fallen Dreams and Stray From the Path in the support slots. Tix are $13 in advance; $15 at the door. Tix for all three newly added shows will go on sale at 10am on Saturday.
Re-Scheduled: The first anniversary party for country radio station 104.9 The Cat was postponed from Friday, February 25, due to the weather. The concert has now been re-scheduled for Northern Lights in Clifton Park for 8pm on Friday, April 22. Jaron & the Long Road to Love, Steve Azar and local faves Skeeter Creek will perform. Tix are available only by listening to the station or online at the station’s website.
Cancelled: The concert by Gadelle – which was slated to take place at the Eighth Step at Proctors in Schenectady on Sunday, May 8 – has been cancelled. The group has disbanded.
In case you missed it: The first round of performers at the Big Up at Sunnyview Farm in Ghent on Thursday-Saturday, July 28-30 was announced – including EOTO, Big Gigantic and the Marco Benevento Trio.
On May 22, 2010 Foreigner played a show at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, NV. Whitesnake guitar player Doug Aldrich subbed for Mick Jones for this show leaving the band with no original members for this date.
