4/6/11: Today’s Tips: Wednesday


READINGS: Cleveland Confidential Book Tour @ the MarketPlace Gallery, Albany. It’s a night of punk rock readings, discussions and Q&A with three musician-authors who hail from Cleveland – Cheetah Chrome of the Dead Boys, Bob Pfeifer of Human Switchboard and Mike Hudson of the Pagans. Keri Kresler will attempt to moderate the discussion. 7pm. FREE. (More info here.)

MUSIC/PARADE: The PolyChoral Project @ Riverfront Park, Troy. Choirs from four Nippertown colleges – RPI, UAlbany, Saint Rose and the Sage College – meet at Riverfront Park for “Troy Paradio.” The choirs will move through the streets of Troy, singing an original work by Canadian composer Kathy Kennedy – accompanied by an electronic soundtrack broadcast live on WRPI 91.5FM. At 7pm, the performance continues inside the EMPAC Concert Hall with works by Javier Busto, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Zoltan Kodaly, Mary Jane Leach, Pauline Oliveros and others. 6pm. FREE. READING: John Patrick Shanley @ the Recital Hall at UAlbany’s Performing Arts Center, Albany. He won an Oscar for his screenplay of “Moonstruck.” Then went one better with “Doubt,” winning a Tony Award and a Pulitzer Prize. Co-sponsored by the New York State Writers Institute and the about-to-become-defunct UAlbany Theater Department. 8pm. FREE.

READING/OPEN MIC: David Kaczynski @ Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs. Poet, author and memoirist Kaczynski is the featured reader at Lena’s monthly poetry open mic night. Sign-up at 7pm; readings bein at 7:30pm.
