Win a FREE TICKET to Ramblin’ Jack Elliott @ Caffe Lena on Sunday
This is not just any old concert at Caffe Lena…
It’s Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, one of the all-time great American folksingers. Don’t believe me? Well, maybe you’ll listen to Mr. Bob Dylan, who declared, “He was a brilliant entertainer … Most folk musicians waited for you to come to them. Jack went out and grabbed you. Jack was King of the Folksingers.” And as he approaches his 80th birthday later this summer, Elliott is still a master musician. He won Grammy Awards in 1995 and 2009. He was honored with the National Medal of Arts. And as we celebrate Bob Dylan’s 70th birthday on Tuesday, it’s important to note that Elliott (along with Woody Guthrie) was a major influence on Dylan’s music.
Sunday’s concert also celebrates the 51st anniversary of the renowned Saratoga Springs coffeehouse Caffe Lena. If you were there last year for the big 50th anniversary shindig with Jim Kweskin & Geoff Muldaur (read our review here), you know what a grand time it was.
So Sarah Craig and the other fine folks at Caffe Lena, are doing up the anniversary celebration big-time once again on Sunday. Once a year, they break out the booze for a party, and this is it. Free beer and wine, oh-so-tasty hors d’oeuvres and sinfully delicious desserts. A silent auction, too. All that and Ramblin’ Jack Elliott? Sounds like a can’t-miss event.
It all starts at 7pm on Sunday, and tix for the Caffe Lena anniversary soiree and concert are $75.
BUT WAIT… What’s this? A FREE TICKET? That’s right, we’re giving away a FREE TICKET to one lucky Nippertown reader! To enter the contest, just post a comment below. Please leave your email address, too. We won’t publish it, but we’ll use it to contact you if you win. The winners will be selected at random and notified on Friday afternoon. Good luck! Congratulations, Andy M!
FYI, there’s a great documentary about Ramblin’ Jack Elliott – I believe it’s called The Ballad of Ramblin’ Jack. That’s actually how I discovered him – a bit backward, I realize.
1 legend at 1 legendary venue, sounds perfect!
