6/23/11: Today’s Tips: Thursday

MUSIC: Ra Ra Riot @ Wiswall Park the Factory Eatery, Ballston Spa. It’s the kick off of Ballston Spa’s free concert series, and if you’re tired of the oldies acts at Albany’s Alive at Five, this is the place to be. With Sirsy. 6pm. FREE. UPDATE: Due to the weather forecast, the concert has been moved to the second floor of the Factory Eatery.

MUSIC: Martha Reeves & the Vandellas @ Corning Preserve’s Riverfront Park the Corning Preserve Boat Launch under the I-787 S Colonie Street overpass, Albany. We were betting that this one might be the best show of the Alive at Five summer series. But now that it’s been moved to the rain site, we’re bummed out. Looks like Ms. Reeves will have ya dancin’ under the streets… With the New York Funk Exchange. 5pm. FREE. UPDATE: The concert has been moved to the rain site.

MUSIC: Todd Rundgren @ the Bearsville Theater, Woodstock. Todd celebrated his 63rd birthday yesterday, and today heads back to his old Bearsville hometown with his bandmates Jesse Gress, Kasim Sulton, Prairie Prince and John Ferenzik. 8pm. $40.

SPORTS PARTY: “Jimmer Jam” @ the Glens Falls Civic Center, Glens Falls. The community support for basketball star Jimmer Fredette ratchets up to the next level as the hometown friends and fans gether to watch the NBA draft. Chances are the suspense won’t last too long, but the celebration might. 5pm. FREE.

THEATER: “A Streetcar Named Desire” @ Williamstown Theatre Festival’s Nikos Stage, Williamstown. It’s opening night for the WTF’s season, and they’re kicking it off with Tennessee Williams’ classic directed by David Cromer and starring Sam Rockwell, Jessica Hecht and Ana Reeder. 7:30pm. MUSIC: The Alan Payette Quartet @ Jay Street, Schenectady. The weekly Jazz on Jay lunchtime concert series continues with versatile guitarist Payette along with bassist Steve Aldi, drummer Gene Garone and saxman Frank Roselli. 12noon-1:30pm. FREE.

ARTS WALK: DownStreet Art @ various locations, North Adams. The kick-off of the 2011 season for the North Adams arts walk. See info here. 6-9pm. FREE.

THEATER: “The K of D, an urban legend” @ the Wood Theater, Glens Falls. Adirondack Theater Festival kicks off its summer 2011 season with Laura Schellhardt’s one-woman play about the eerie events that unfold around a sleepy lakeside town one summer.
