Christine Lavin Wins ASCAP Deems Taylor Award
Live on “Bound For Glory” ‘MY GLAMOROUS LIFE’ by Christine Lavin
Christine Lavin has come a long way since the days when she used to waitress at Caffe Lena. She’s a singer-songwriter-guitarist with 20 solo albums to her credit. She’s produced nine compilation albums showcasing emerging and veteran singer-songwriters. She’s hosted her own show on XM Radio. And she’s now an award-winning author, too.
Lavin’s book, “Cold Pizza For Breakfast: A Mem-Wha??,” has been honored as one of the winners of the 43rd Annual ASCAP Deems Taylor Awards for outstanding print, broadcast and new media coverage of music. The winners will be honored at a special ceremony and reception on Tuesday, November 15 at ASCAP’s New York offices.
“I can’t believe the company I am in!,” Lavin says, noting that some of the other winners include Will Friedwald, David Ritz and Nat Hentoff.
Lavin will likely read an excerpt or two from the book on Friday evening when she returns to her old haunt, Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs. She’ll be sharing the stage with Don White for an evening of songs and comedy (and comic songs, too). Showtimes are 7 and 9:30pm. Tix are $25 in advance; $27 at the door.
