Win FREE TIX to Amy LaVere @ Valentine’s on Thursday

“Enticingly sultry” – The Washington Post

“Part winsome alt-country gal and part avenging angel, Amy LaVere has made the break-up album of the year.” – Spin Magazine (8 out of 10 stars)

“LaVere could rest on her lyrics alone, which are witty and feisty enough to stand on their own, but by giving her band boundless license to indulge any whim or eccentricity, she has crafted a well-rounded album that is already among the year’s best.” – Paste Magazine

Artistically speaking, Louisiana-born songsmith, haunting vocalist and stand-up bass thumper Amy LaVere is swinging for the fences with her new album, “Stranger Me.” So she should be right at home when she returns to Nippertown to lead her band into Valentine’s Music Hall in Albany on Thursday night (December 1).

The album was produced by Craig Silvey (fresh from his engineering duties on the Arcade Fire’s Grammy Award-winning Album of the Year “The Suburbs”). It features a dizzying array of musicians who regularly ply their musical trade with such diverse folks as Leonard Cohen, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and the Memphis Symphony Orchestra. And if that doesn’t sound adventurous enough for you, in addition to LaVere’s captivating original tunes, she also delves into the songbags of the great Bobby Charles and Captain Beefheart.

Music isn’t her only talent, either. As an actor, the charismatic LaVere has had key supporting roles in such major motion pictures as “Black Snake Moan” and “Walk the Line.”

The very seductive Amy LaVere and her band rumble into Valentine’s Music Hall in Albany on Thursday (December 1) in support of “Stranger Me.” Local duo Palatypus opens the show at 8:30pm. Tix are $8.
